Reflexology for all stages of women’s wellbeing
Reflexology has become a popular complementary therapy used to support many female conditions and can be used to help you all stages of your life.
Many women find reflexology help with issues such as:
- Painful or heavy periods
- Missing, overly frequent or irregular cycles
- PMS/PMT
- Hormonal imbalances
- Infertility
- Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
- Fibroids
- Endometriosis
- Pregnancy and Post-natal health
- Peri-menopause and Menopause symptoms
It is also proven to aid relaxation, improve sleep and calm the nervous system, aiding better focus and concentration and increased energy and vitality.
A course of treatments is ideally recommended to return the body to balance: 4 x weekly sessions followed by 2 x fortnightly sessions and monthly sessions thereafter if required, but if this is not feasible for you, timings can always be adapted to what is most convenient for you.
Fertility
Couples are increasingly turning to complementary therapies and looking at their overall well-being when they are preparing to start a family, or if they are finding it difficult to conceive, and with good reason.
Reflexology therapy works by balancing and harmonising the body, working on all systems including endocrine (hormonal), reproductive and nervous systems – systems which may be directly implicated with fertility issues and therefore it is often a popular complementary therapy to consider when thinking about fertility health.
Whether you are just at the start of planning for your family or you are struggling with a diagnosis of unexplained fertility or a diagnosed condition, reflexology can be beneficial to you.
Having had personal experience of infertility and IVF myself, I have an understanding of the stress and strain, both mentally and physically that it can put on both partners and I highly recommend reflexology, not only helping to restore balance, but also as an effective way of helping you to cope with the associated stresses that infertility can bring and helping you to relax.
What is involved in fertility reflexology?
I like to take time at the beginning of the first session for a thorough consultation including medical history. lifestyle, diet and general well-being. Subsequent sessions will also include a progress update to assess any changes.
As with any reflexology session, I start with an assessment of your feet (foot reading) and you will then receive a full balancing treatment addressing the whole of the body. However, additional focus will be given to the particular reflexes associated with the reproductive system, endocrine system, nervous system and general relaxation, together with any other issues I come across during the session.
I also do treatments combining both facial and foot reflexology. I find the combination of the two types of reflexology works extremely well at relaxing and calming the client.
A course of treatments is recommended: Ideally 4 x weekly sessions followed by 2 x fortnightly sessions and monthly sessions thereafter if required. However if this is not feasible for you, please don’t be put off as timings and numbers of sessions can always be adapted.
Can I have reflexology alongside assisted conception treatment?
Yes you can! However it is something you may wish to discuss with your consultant first. Unlike fertility reflexology which aims to balance and optimise your hormonal balance and reproductive system for natural conception, reflexology alongside fertility treatment aims to assist the efficacy of the particular regime you will be undergoing by relaxing you, rather than trying to balancing your hormones. There are also certain times when treatment is not advised such as between your priming injection and egg collection, so it is important to let me know exactly where you are in your treatment protocol so that I can treat you safely and optimally.
Relax and Heal with Reiki
Stress and anxiety can be so detrimental to our health and often play a part in issues such as unexplained infertility, irregular menstrual cycles and perimenopause symptoms. Another therapy you may wish to consider is Reiki – a gentle and non-invasive therapy using healing energy to help relax and calm you. It can be combined with reflexology or as a stand-alone treatment.
