Hot Stones Massage

A deeply relaxing massage using hot stones to penetrate muscles more deeply and encourage increased physiological and therapeutic effects. I offer Hot Stones Massage as  a standalone treatment, or combined with holistic massage, facial massage and reflexology.

The power of heat!

Hot stones massage therapy is a very adaptive technique which uses preheated volcanic basalt river stones which are applied in conjunction with a body massage. It can be incorporated into various types of massage including Swedish, remedial and sports massage and can be used on the whole body and face.

We all know how effective heat can be to help ease pain and discomfort, but the heat from the stones also gives enhanced physiological effects.  It increases circulation, cell metabolism, stimulation of the lymphatic system and detoxification more efficiently and effectively than regular massage alone can. The heat also helps the energy flow through the body and promotes a meditative and calming state.

Hot stones have been used for over 2,000 years by many cultures across the world including the native Americans, Japanese, Chinese and Egyptians. The modern day treatment we are familiar with today, however, was founded in 1993 in Arizona by Mary Nelson.

Benefits of Hot Stones Massage

It is said that one massage stroke with the stones is equivalent to 7 with the hands! The heat of the stones penetrates much more deeply through the soft tissue and superficial muscles into the deeper muscles, allowing the muscles to relax 4 to 5 times quicker than standard massage. This is all done without causing discomfort to the client and so is particularly beneficial for muscular aches and pains. It has all the benefits of traditional massage and is a deeply relaxing and stress-reducing treatment.
