As your body adapts to support your growing baby, you may notice new aches, hormonal changes, emotional shifts or symptoms you’ve never experienced before. Pregnancy Reflexology offers gentle, nurturing support throughout this journey—helping you feel more balanced, calm and comfortable as your pregnancy progresses.

Supporting Your Changing Body

Throughout pregnancy, your posture and centre of gravity shift, placing additional pressure on the muscles, ligaments and joints—often creating discomfort in the lower back, hips, pelvis and feet. At the same time, hormone levels fluctuate, influencing both your emotional wellbeing and physical function.

Hormones such as relaxin soften the ligaments (helping prepare the pelvis for birth) but may also lead to joint hypermobility and instability. Progesterone softens muscles but can contribute to constipation, haemorrhoids and varicose veins. These natural changes are essential, but they can leave you feeling tired, tender or out of balance.

Your circulatory and lymphatic systems also work harder during pregnancy—blood volume can increase by up to 50%. This additional demand may cause changes in blood pressure, fatigue, swelling, and feelings of heaviness in the legs or feet.

Reflexology provides a gentle, calming way to support your body through these changes.

Safe, Gentle Support Throughout Pregnancy

Pregnancy Reflexology can be received from the first day of pregnancy right up until birth, provided there are no contraindications*. The treatment is deeply relaxing, grounding and balancing, helping you navigate the physical and emotional shifts that occur week by week.

It may be supportive for:

  • Insomnia

  • Fatigue

  • Nausea

  • Constipation

  • Hormonal fluctuations

  • Swelling (oedema)

  • Ligament pain, pelvic discomfort and back pain

Reflexology for Preparing the Body for Labour

Many women seek pre-natal reflexology in the final weeks of pregnancy to help their body prepare for birth. While there is no single point that can “trigger” labour, specific reflex techniques can be used from 37 weeks onwards to gently stimulate key areas with the intention of supporting the body’s natural readiness.

For the most benefit, regular treatments during the third trimester are recommended.

Recent research* has shown that women receiving reflexology during late pregnancy may experience:

  • Reduced anxiety

  • Decreased pain during labour

  • Shorter labour stages

  • Increased birth satisfaction

It is important to remember that your baby will arrive when they are ready, and a responsible practitioner will never promise to bring on labour.
